Elena S. Rotarou

Elena is an economist, holds a Master’s degree (MSc) in Urban and Regional Studies from Birmingham University, United Kingdom, and a PhD in Economics from Kyoto University, Japan. Since 2020, she has worked as an assistant professor-researcher in the National Department of Public Health, Faculty of Medicine and Science, at Universidad San Sebastián in Chile. Her teaching focuses on public health, epidemiology, and research methodology, both in undergraduate and graduate courses. She has conducted research and consulting projects for international organizations such as the World Health Organization, the European Association of Service Providers for Persons with Disabilities, and the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies.
Her research has focused on topics such as social epidemiology, disability, health inequities, and sustainable development, and has been funded by different sources, including ANID (Fondecyt-Postdoctorate No. 3140481) and Tenovus Cancer Care (UK). Currently, she is researching access to healthcare for people with disabilities in the Chilean and international context, mainly using quantitative methodology.
