Elena is an economist, holds a Master’s degree (MSc) in Urban and Regional Studies from Birmingham University, United Kingdom, and a PhD in Economics from Kyoto University, Japan.
She is an associate professor-researcher at the National Department of Public Health, Faculty of Medicine, at Universidad San Sebastián in Santiago, Chile. Her teaching focuses on public health, epidemiology, and research methodology, both in undergraduate and graduate courses. She has conducted research and consulting projects for international organizations such as the World Health Organization, the European Association of Service Providers for Persons with Disabilities, and the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies.
Her research has focused on topics such as disability, social epidemiology, health inequities, and sustainable development, and has been funded by different sources, including ANID (Fondecyt-Postdoctorate No. 3140481) and Tenovus Cancer Care (UK). Currently, she is researching access to healthcare for people with disabilities in the Chilean and international context, using mainly quantitative methodology.
