Carolina Ferrante

I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and a PhD in Social Sciences from the University of Buenos Aires. I work as an Adjunct Researcher at the National Scientific and Technical Research Council (CONICET), based at the Department of Social Sciences of the National University of Quilmes, Argentina. I specialized in the area of critical disability studies, prioritizing qualitative and socio-historical approaches.

I am interested in problematizing what we call “disability” as a historical/sociopolitical category and as an intersectional and situated experience. To this end, I have researched various topics such as: body, “adapted” sports, and stigma in the City of Buenos Aires (1950-2010); disability policies and begging practices in the City of Buenos Aires and in northern Chile; the Teletón phenomenon; Deaf sports and struggles for the recognition of the Argentine Deaf Community (1953-2018). I am currently developing the project: “Narratives on disability, motherhood, and gender in the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires.”
