I am 26 years old and live in Santiago. I have been a wheelchair dancer since I was 10, and I studied social work out of a need to help make people with disabilities visible—I believe that is my greatest act of activism. I currently work for the Corporación Espina Bífida, a condition I also have.
I feel that throughout my life I have been privileged compared to the realities of others with my condition, who have faced constant discrimination. That is why, through my profession, I want to draw on the diverse experiences I know—both personal and from those close to me with disabilities—to take action and offer proposals so Chile becomes more human and empathetic every day. We all live in society, and it is our right to participate with equal opportunities. I want to demonstrate that drive alone is not enough; the different contexts in which we grow and develop are truly what matter.
